2012 Update on the Adventures of the Prochnows

What a blessed year for all of the Prochnows!

Chase kept busy all year long with bowling on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and then with his Sunday tournaments around the state.  He enjoyed his time at St. John playing basketball and becoming a true fighter on the court.  We were extremely proud of him as he stole the ball and zipped up / down / and all around on the court! His 6th grade year at St John was fun filled and blessed with many good friends / teachers. In August Chase started his 7th grade year back at the Seward Middle School.  He was excited to return with his public school friends and explore new classes.  One of his favorite activities is to beat his grandparents at cards and will spend endless hours accomplishing it when we are fortunate enough to visit them in Roscoe.  On November 18th he celebrated his 13th birthday which was filled with laughs and plenty of gaming with some of his best friends all through the night.

Morgan's year was filled with her final dance recital in April, and she looked beautiful as she tapped and jazzed through the day.  Many tiring games and practices for cheering, along with endless FFA and FCCLA meetings have kept her extremely busy when she wasn't working at the Rivoli theatre and the movie place.  Her wheels never stop turning because she is always on the road to somewhere. One of her most enjoyed adventures last summer took her tanking down the river with some of her closest friends. 

Mike's year with Hypnosis was spent with many proms and county fairs.  Chase spent many hours helping his dad and taking over many responsibilities. When he was home he spent much time in his garden which took a hard hit because of the heat and mowing down the never ending weeds.
In June we took a family trip to Branson to check out some possible future routes for his business endeavors in stage.  It was beautiful and many ideas started to dance in our heads as we enjoyed shows and thought about future possibilities.

As for me, January brought a new adventure in education.  A position teaching 4th grade at Holmes Elementary in Lincoln. It was a quest that brought many challenges and a new understanding to what diversity was all about within the world of teaching.  Life's lessons are the result of the many roads that we travel and the people we come in contact with each day; thus, the people I've been blessed with have shown me the love that must exist for all students.  With the experience Mike and I decided that I should finish my Special Education degree with the 3 final classes that would give me another endorsement. I took a fall class at Concordia on Thursday nights and will take another in the spring.  God has a plan for me, and we know that it will include advocating for the many levels of learning that need to be addressed for all students.  I will continue to find the path which will give me the opportunity to help others in a leadership capacity, but first we want to help Morgan enjoy her final year at Seward High School. With that special note, we hope that each of you accept the invitation to  join us on May 12th for her High School Graduation and celebration.

As 2013 takes us on another journey, we wish all of you much happiness and joy.  Please take the time to love, laugh, and hug the people close to you.  Each day must be treated like a day to celebrate!  God's Blessings to everyone.....

Christmas Bliss! 2011

The cries of "I wish it would snow for Christmas" could be heard at 2980 Raymond road; however, at the same time you could hear sighs of relief that the roads were clear to drive to town. Grandma Jean joined us as we enjoyed the St. John's 5:30 Christmas Eve service, and then stayed the night to help keep Chase in his bedroom until at least 6 a.m. on Christmas Day. The children enjoyed a wonderful day of opening presents, eating, and watching t.v. Everyone helped with the dinner and clean up for the first time in the Prochnow Christmas history. (Chase still needs a little more training, but he did help at times. Ha!)

We are planning on driving for a couple of days to Ogallala for a New Year's celebration of cards and family if Morgan doesn't have to work at the movie theatre. Chase will be spending some practice time on the basketball court beginning next week, and I will begin checking out my next teaching assignment at Holmes Elementary School in Lincoln. I will be teaching in a 4th grade classroom to finish out the 2011-12 school year. Mike's agenda includes preparing for a few shows in January and then the County Fairboard meeting in Kearney.

July through November

Time has been very limited over the past 6 months mainly because I changed positions within the LPS system. Then I turned around and changed positions again! Last April, I took a leadership position helping open the doors for the Dawes Middle School. I felt compelled to learn about the many obstacles surrounding the great task of starting a school from square one and learning from many highly dedicated individuals. I spent most of my summer days at meetings, many after school and weekend hours doing paperwork, and a great deal of time away from my family throughout the year; thus, after getting sick from environmental allergies, I chose to accept a position teaching children ages 4-5. I will continue with that refreshing position until December, and then I will see what is in store for me next.

Last August, Morgan began her Junior year at Seward High School. She has been working a part-time job at the movie theater and studying each night in order to acquire her well deserved high academic scores. She did an awesome job of cheering for the football team and will begin with basketball season after Thanksgiving. She enjoyed a trip to Denver last week for a FCCLA meeting and has been enjoying her new position for the Seward 4th of July committee. She has been exploring the college opportunities and is ready to start visiting some sites. Much of her time is spent with her boyfriend Brandon who seems to keep her smiling and spoiled with kindness.

Chase just enjoyed his 12th birthday. 26 friends joined him for two hours playing dodge ball at the St. John gym. He has been keeping busy with his academic grades at St. John and enjoying his Tuesdays at the bowling alley. His summer team won first place in bowling and at this point his fall league is in the first place standing. After the Thanksgiving break, his St. John basketball team will begin practicing. It should be interesting seeing him play on his first school team!

Mike spent the summer in front of hundreds of people. We were so proud that he made it to the state fair in Grand Island. He did three great shows which really showcased his abilities. At this point he is still working with the district courts, but he is always looking for a position that will give him more opportunities.

Morgan completed her Sophmore year of H.S. and enjoyed the bliss of completing "Geometry!" She worked at understanding, learning, and reviewing throughout many nights to meet the expectations of her Geometry teacher. She survived the class and passed because of her willingness not to give up! We are extremely proud of her "Good Student" standing which will support her as she takes on her new responsibilities as a 16 year old driver. She celebrated her big day with driving to Lincoln twice. She went to Carlos O'Kelly's for lunch, drove home, and then met us back in Lincoln for supper at the Olive Garden. Now, she is babysitting 3 kids under 8, driving Chase around, and enjoying the freedom of a car.

Chase completed his 5th grade year at St. John, and is enjoying his days off mowing, playing x-box 360, and playing baseball. He plays on the weekend for a traveling team called SWARM. Then through the week he travels to nearby towns with the City Rec Team. He LOVES to play ball. At the end of May he played in a bowling tournament and placed 2nd. He was so excited to win more money to be set aside for his education. Now, he is bowling once a week on a summer team with another boy. He was wounded for about a week at the end of May when he slammed his hand in the car door. We were scared that it was broken, but he was very lucky. He has about 2 more weeks of ball and then he is done for the season.

June has been interesting with me ending my 2 year position at the Behavioral Skills Program for Lincoln Public Schools. The students and staff was one of my most memorable experiences ever! A big slot in my heart will always exist for the relationships that were developed at that particular learning environment. It is awesome how God makes your realize the importance of what you need to do even when he takes you down a path that you never expected! I have now started working at the Dawes Middle School for LPS. I will be working with 6th graders and as a team leader. We are starting with a new staff; thus, the work ahead is going to be unbelievable and another new adventure.

Last week, was a major feat for Mike and I. We took the family and headed to Estes Park for our 20th anniversary! It was WONDERFUL! (I'm going to repeat that statement.) It was WONDERFUL! We have now figured out though that vacation means driving the Tahoe for comfort and having 2 rooms at the motel.

Mike will soon be starting some County Fairs after his 4th of July weekend. He is celebrating his 30th class reunion and will be waving his way through the streets of Seward on the 4th. We have many open dates so please continue to share Mike's talents with anyone and everyone you know!
